Me and Dairy Free

As a warning, I talk about some less-than pleasant things here. I’ve noticed that in today’s society, cutting out a whole food group is really, REALLY popular to do. So many people go “gluten free” because “it really makes me … Continue reading

The magic of makeup and getting more money serving food.

Instead of coming up with an actual opening sentence, I’m just going to jump right into what I want to say.

When I wear super girly, and “natural” makeup.. I get more tips.

Some of you are probably saying “well duh.” While others are saying.. “what??!”

Here’s what I’ve noticed.

Regardless of the day, the customers, the food, the kitchen… How you look has more of a judgment effect than people want to believe.

Besides makeup….

If you’re a dude, you’ll likely get more tips than any of the girls on staff, in the same section and same shifts.

Same goes if you have big boobs. So for someone like me, who barely has a handful, if I’m paired up with someone who has boobs the size of my face, they’re gonna make more tips than me, from everyone. Men, women, old people, young people. Bigger boobs is bigger dollars.

But my main point to this (besides the fact that if you have tiny boobs I’d suggest always wearing a pushup to serve food) is that even when I wear a lot of makeup, but it looks extra girly, I make more in tips.

A light taupe/smokey eye with a light lip, blush and highlight? Nah.
Eyeliner, and a red lip? Nope.
Baby pink shimmery eyeshadow, and a creamy lipgloss? Bingo.

Without fail I always notice this. If I wear just mascara and lip balm (even if I’m having an amazing day and being super cheerful to every customer), I don’t make as much in tips. If I wear pink eyeliner, a little bit of highlight, and a shimmery coral lipgloss, I’m rakin it in.

Why does big boobs, and lipgloss give you more tips, besides having a penis?

Wet lips don’t make me a better waitress. Pink eyeliner certainly doesn’t make me a better waitress.

Big boobs might. But I wouldn’t know.

Hair colour, still haven’t figured that one out yet.

If you think you’re doing an awesome job at work, but your tips are like 10% (or less?!), next shift why don’t you throw on a pushup and a light pink lipgloss and see how much more you make.

No matter what though.. Don’t be one of those people with hair in your face. No one wants hair in their food.

Go ahead. Call me sexist.

Instagram Savvy

So since Instagram recently added the “add accounts” feature, I decided to make a profile just for my blog!
Now, I’ve only got a couple of posts (literally) but I’ll be posting there regularly!!

New York New York!

Hey again! I feel HORRIBLE that I’ve been away so long. I went out of the country (NEW YORK!!!!) And since I got back I’ve been working and just haven’t uploaded anything! It’s like a welcome back. SO! New York! … Continue reading

Thanksgiving and a Wedding

So this weekend past was Thanksgiving! It was also a wedding of a friend of mine, so of course I had to go to that. I drove home for the weekend, where the wedding was taking place. Also partly so … Continue reading

“beauty-ish” Products I can’t live without

My daily life can be pretty boring, and hectic at the same time. These are some things that I reach for time and time again without fail, and they never let me down.

Vaselline. Face moisturizers come and go but Vaselline will never steer me wrong. It removes makeup in a pinch, will moisturize and protect skin, it’s the #1 reason why I rarely have chapped or dry lips. A small container will last you literally years.

Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Lotion. I use this so much. Like for years it has been my saviour and the best part is that it is super cheap and works great. It will forever be a staple in my life. Wear this under makeup, on its own, hand or body lotion, soothes irritated skin, helps with itching. It is so gooood.

Benzagel 5 Acne Gel. I don’t get pimples often, but when I do it’s usually one or two massive ones due to stress, hormones, or from touching my face too much at work. (Germs!) This has yet to let me down. This 5% Benzoyl Peroxide gel clears up most of my blemishes without hassle. It works on the occasional back/body pimple (I play a full contact sport, dried sweat = pimples) and after one application I forget all about any problem I had. The one issue is that it does make your makeup spotty since the pigment will stick to the dried gel. Put it either underneath your moisturizer, or on top of your makeup (or if you’re not leaving your house just slap it on and go about your chores etc). Thats the only way I can get it to work decent. Warning: It will burn a little, it being a chemical and all, but not all the time.) Pair it with a Salicylic Acid toner or wipe or wash and pimples don’t stand a chance.

Dry Shampoo. I like Batiste right now. I don’t love the “original” smell (Have to try the other scents asap) but I use this at least twice a week because it works so dang good. It’s one of the only dry shampoo’s that I’ve used that actually makes my hair look and feel like it’s clean, and not gritty, sticky, and still greasy like other ones do. (I even bought the coveted Klorane dry shampoo to try, 15$ later… halfway through the day I had to touch-up with Batiste…) Do yourself a favour and pick up a bottle.

Sunscreen. Yeah, I’m not kidding. I’m a super super pale person, so sunscreen is mandatory for going outside. There’s tons of face sunscreens, and body sunscreens. Pick one. Wear it everyday. Your skin will thank you. Plus if your’e into skin care you’ll know that sunscreen is probably your best bet for preventive measures against aging skin!

Visine for Allergy Advance with Antihistamine. Without this I probably would have scratched my eyeballs out by now. It is the only allergy eye drops that stops the itching. It has regular visine properties like anti-red eye, plus the added benefit of saving me from cats, hay fever, and whatever else finds its way into my eyes. Just make sure it has the Antihistamines in it. The regular “Visine Allergy” does absolutely nothing. I will always have this on me.
